Florida motorcyclists know that it can be dangerous to share the road with large cars and trucks. Blind spots, speeding vehicles and distracted drivers are all present on the open road. When a motorcycle accident occurs, motorcyclists can often suffer serious injuries because they do not have the protection of a car or truck body surrounding them.
On Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, two car crashes occurred on the same Florida road within 24 hours of each other. The first of these on Feb. 1 at about 2:10 p.m. involved a couple who was riding on their motorcycle. The motorcyclists were struck by a car as they came through an intersection.
Reports state the Florida Highway Patrol cited the 71-year-old driver for failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign. The impact of the accident caused both the motorcycle driver and his passenger to be thrown from their vehicle. Although the passenger fortunately only suffered minor injuries, the driver of the motorcycle had to be airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. There was no information available about the 58-year-old man's condition.
In motorcycle accidents such as these, the injured victims may decide to file a claim for personal injury. Here, if the actions of the driver are found to be the cause of the accident, the motorcyclists may be able to file a claim against her seeking compensation for their injuries and for any losses they suffered. These payments could include replacement of the motorcycle and payments for the hospital treatments that occurred as a result of the crash.
