In Palm Beach County and throughout Florida, personal injury wrongful death matters often arise as a result of the negligent actions of a party. Many of these claims follow a fatal motor vehicle accident. Wrongful death may be available after a person is found to be the negligent or reckless cause of the accident that resulted in the death of the victim.
Palm Beach County residents may have read about a Flagler County wrongful death claim, which was settled on Feb. 6. The matter involves the death of a 76-year-old woman who was struck by a car as she walked her dog in Palm Coast. The 55-year-old defendant struck the victim with her car on Nov. 10. The victim passed away two days later at Halifax Health Medical Center. The wrongful death lawsuit claimed the driver was negligent and also failed to appropriately contact emergency services.

Florida motorcyclists know that it can be dangerous to share the road with large cars and trucks. Blind spots, speeding vehicles and distracted drivers are all present on the open road. When a motorcycle accident occurs, motorcyclists can often suffer serious injuries because they do not have the protection of a car or truck body surrounding them.
On Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, two car crashes occurred on the same Florida road within 24 hours of each other. The first of these on Feb. 1 at about 2:10 p.m. involved a couple who was riding on their motorcycle. The motorcyclists were struck by a car as they came through an intersection.

Traveling on the highway during the early morning hours can be daunting in the best of conditions. Intense fog and dark, smoky skies were among the conditions cited as a cause of a multiple-car accident that occurred on Interstate 75 on Sunday, Jan. 29. The fatal accident resulted in the deaths of 10 people and injuries to many others. The car crash happened at 3:45 a.m. and involved cars, a motor home and several tractor-trailers.
Authorities report that the highway had been closed just prior to the accident because of an earlier accident. Officers at the scene reviewed conditions and made the determination that the road was safe for drivers to travel. After the traffic accident, a review of the decision to open the highway has been ordered by the Florida governor.

Technology is continuously advancing in every facet of our lives. In an attempt to continue to overcome the number of injuries and fatalities from automobile accidents, Ford Motor Company has plans to implement a new "lane-keeping technology."
Specifically, Ford's new system will include a camera mounted onto the vehicle's rear-view mirror. The camera will detect lane markings and send a vibration to the steering wheel to alert the driver if at any time it senses the vehicle drifting particularly close to the edge of the lane. If the driver ignores or doesn't detect the warning, the new system will engage the power steering and veer the vehicle back within the safe proximity of the lane.

What started as a helpful act ended in tragedy. A man stopped to help two women who were in a minor accident, and then all three of them were struck and killed by a passing vehicle.
The deadly accident last weekend shows just how dangerous Florida's roads can be for pedestrians. In the last year, 11 pedestrians who had left their vehicles were killed in five accidents in South Florida.

When drivers evade police, they are not only breaking the law, but they are putting others' lives at risk. Two men were arrested in West Palm Beach over the weekend after a police chase led to a car accident that left three unassuming motorists hurt.
It started in West Palm Beach when a city police officer noticed a black Chevy Impala run a stop sign at 44th Street and Windsor Avenue. The car kept going, even after police went after it. The driver violated numerous traffic laws in the process, from running stop signs to driving on the wrong side of the road.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 95 that occurred on the Tuesday before Christmas. The fatal truck accident left a prisoner transport officer deceased. According to reports, the officer was on his way back from dropping off an inmate at the Palm Beach County Jail, and there were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Officials say that the 47-year-old transport officer was traveling in a late-model Ford van when the vehicle crashed into the back of a big rig just before 2 a.m. The cause of the accident was not known, and no negligence has yet been alleged against either the 45-year-old driver of the semi-tractor-trailer or the driver of the van. However, what appears to have occurred is that the van collided with the big rig as the tractor-trailer was merging into the outside lane of the roadway.
